Orange Spinach Morning Smoothie

My latest obsession is Cara Cara Oranges. I noticed them at the grocery store last week, and did a nutrition search on them; it turns out that Cara Cara oranges are the perfect orange. They are intensely sweet, lower in acid than other oranges, juicy, and have no seeds. These oranges are also higher in nutrients than other oranges (1 orange contains more than 100% RDA of Vitamin C, 30% of RDA of Vitamin A, and 15% RDA of folate), and they also contain fiber, potassium, and the antioxidant lycopene.

Cara Cara Oranges are available from December to May, so I am glad that found them early enough in the season to enjoy these pink oranges for at least a few months! 😋

I decided to start making a Orange spinach smoothie every morning because eating spinach with citrus helps increase your body’s absorption of iron….so it’s a win-win morning beverage. And OMGosh- it’s been such a great way to start the morning. Not only are the smoothies very refreshing, but both Glenn and I have noticed that we have so much more energy in the mornings after we drink our Orange Spinach smoothie!

Orange Spinach Morning Smoothie

Equipment

  • Vitamix (or other blender)

Ingredients
  

  • 1 Cara Cara Orange (or Navel Orange)
  • 1-2 Handful Spinach
  • â…“-½ Cup Ice
  • â…“-½ Cup Water

Instructions
 

  • Add Spinach, peeled orange, ice, and water into Vitamix/Blender
  • Put cover on blender
  • Blend until smooth
