Homemade Biscuits

Biscuits are simple and quick to make. Plus, they are great any time of day… add a sausage patty and egg to make a great breakfast sandwich, or throw together a quick batch to go along with supper. And… they are so yummy with honey or jelly.

Tried this recipe?Let us know how it was!

This biscuit post was my first post in my original blog that I am still trying recreate. Kayla had asked me years ago while she was in college for my biscuit recipe, so I had put it out on the blog for her.

When I was looking through my computer files this morning, I saw the saved blog post. I don’t have a lot of my original posts intact, so I thought I would repost it today with the original step by step instructions & pictures from my first post.

Step by Step: Instructions:
  1. Combine flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt.

2. Cut in butter until it looks like meal. (Before I owned a pastry cutter, I used to just cut in the butter with clean fingers; I always thought that worked great because you could feel the texture of the flour to know when it was cut in thoroughly.

3. Make a well in the center, and pour the milk in all at once.

4. Turn onto a lightly floured surface, and knead 20-25 times (about 1/2 minute)

5. Roll or pat to 1/2″ thickness. Then cut with a biscuit cutter, round cookie cutter, or a glass/tumbler. My favorite way to cut biscuits is with a Tupperware tumbler…it’s the perfect size (3″ in diameter), and it’s always handy in the cupboard (okay- so that is the real reason I love it… I’m usually in too much of a hurry to go dig out a regular biscuit or cookie cutter. One of these days I will dig out my vintage biscuit cutter passed down from my Grandma, and try that instead!) 🙂

6. Place on ungreased baking sheet and bake at 450 degrees F (230 degrees C) for 12-15 minutes. To get brown sides, place the biscuits 1-2″ apart.

7. Enjoy!
